Barber to Boise

Well I've been talking about it and yes I'm so excited about it that I'm staying up late to post pics and share all the funny details. My first 5k race! My morning started when I finally fell asleep for the night at 3 am, sadly my hips have been killing so bad (change in the weather, who knows?) that I was up until 3. With 4 hours of sleep and two slices of banana bread behind me, I found myself in the check in line. We had funny moments of not really knowing how to warm up, where to start the race, and anxiety when my bib# 22 somehow got lost in transit and thus I became #697 with an EXTREMELY overused chip.

Pre-race smiles! I had every intention of busting a cap on this event, but since I haven't ran for four months, I guess my expectations might have been to high! Mandy is the perfect running buddy, way in-shape even though she says she's not, extremely patient and encouraging, and hey, she came all the way from Salt Lake to run this thing....and see her family of course haha!
This was at about a mile and half. See Mandy's big smile. Brandon took the kids over to the park so they could cheer and wave to us! It was a nice pick me up! I ended up having to walk a couple times...not nearly as much as I wanted, so I was pretty pleased. Me and Mandy sprinted the last hundred feet or so, which was the only part of the race I actually felt any control over, and overall, I thought I did alright...I'm convinced Mandy could have ran it way faster but I was grateful she hung with me and kept a positive attitude!
Following the run, we got to listen to Anya Marina perform in the tailgate area of the stadium. She was fantastic live, and very sweet! It was fun to meet her, and Tori and Taya even got autographs...yes, I was temporarily jealous when she addressed it to Tori and not me, but I have bragging rights either way!
Brandon was such an awesome help all day, which makes me grateful for such a supportive and involved husband. And Tori even surprised me tonight when I layed on the bed and she got up and softly played with my hair until I fell asleep. She even patted my cheek and said "night night." Haha, I have such a great family and feel so grateful to everyone that was excited for me. It was a pretty big accomplishment, and although I'm terribly feeling it, I would and will definitely do it again! And maybe train this time, haha!

I am going to honest- I don't know why I am smiling! Wasn't it then that I realized I needed to use the bathroom? Not a good feeling! I loved it and am so glad we ran it together! Again, next year?

FUN! I have to admit that I'm jealous I didn't get to run it w/it you. I'm pretty sure I would've slowed you down, though, so it's a good thing. So happy you got to do it and accomplish a big goal!
